Hints, Tips and FAQs on using Investor EaseIf you are new to using the programme, performing the following functions will provide you with a good working knowledge of how to operate Investor Ease. From the Main Menu got to reports and then select deals for the last month. Note that deals can be sorted by date, value or company by clicking the blue letters at the top of the column. Director deals are updated every day. How do I check broker recommendations for today? From Main Menu go to reports then select Recent Broker Recommendations. Click recommendations for the last day. You can graph the share by using the right click function. How can I find out which shares have been unusually active today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select active stocks. And then to active stocks up which produces a list of shares, which have been heavily traded and have gone up. This enables the user to investigate possible reasons for above average activity such as potential take-over interest or a bullish announcement pending. I would like to compile a list of shares, which have a market cap of more than £100m, historic earnings and dividend growth of more 10% in the last two years and forecast to grow in excess of 10% next year? From the main menu, go to analysis, then to share analysis – you may then select all shares, or just a range such as the FTSE 350, or alternatively you can limit your search to a specified sector or industry. Next, press select more filters and the next screen will give you the option to narrow your search by checking one of the historic price performers boxes at the top of the screen. Note how the selected number of shares changes depending on which box is checked. The next stage is to select the criteria – you may now use the drop down menu to select market capitalisation, then using the select one drop down menu select greater than and in the third box enter £100m as the value. Press return and the appropriate list of shares is generated. Then use the same procedure to select earnings and forecast parameters and any other selection criteria until the list is reduced to your required parameter. I've got shares in Fairey Group, but they don’t seem to be listed anymore. What happened to them? From the Main Menu go to Reports then select Deleted Equities. Click the Find button and type in Fairey and press enter. A page is displayed which reveals that Fairey was renamed to Spectris on 09/05/01. The Deleted Equities database also contains details and terms of takeovers, companies who have gone into receivership etc. How do I make a list of shares which have been the subject of a takeover rumour in the last month? From the Main Menu go to Reports and then Search Comments. Check the the box which limits the search to the Last month. Enter the string ‘predator’ or ‘bid rumour’ and press return. A list of takeover suspects will be produced. The search can be widened to include other parameters. Using just the word rumour will include ‘poor trading rumour’ or ‘MBO rumour’ etc, etc. Search strings such as ‘speculation’ or ‘gossip’ are all words which can be utilised. Which companies announced results today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics, at this screen click on the results button which will display a list of the companies and their results. This screen is updated every day. Which companies announced dividend payments today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on the dividend button which displays a list of companies which announced their dividends. This screen is useful for income investors who like to buy shares cum dividend. Which companies announced their forthcoming results dates today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on the Forthcoming button which displays a list of companies which have announced to today the forthhcoming date of their results. This report is useful to investors who like to buy shares in anticipation of a rise in the share price on the run-up to the results. Which directors have been dealing today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on the Dividend button which displays a list of Directors dealing announcements for the day. You may right click on any of the shares to draw a graph. How do I find out the best performing sector and the best performing share in that sector for today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on the Sector Button which will produce two lists for the best and worst performing sectors for the day. You may right click on a sector to draw a graph or double click on it to produce a list of the shares in that sector. This list can be sorted by PE, PEG, price performance etc by double clicking on the blue letters at the top of the column. How do I get a market report on smaller company shares for today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on the Smaller button in the Reports section of the screen. This will give a comprehensive report on activity in smaller companies shares. How to I check on how the shares in my portfolio performed today? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on shares performance in the portfolio section of the screen which will display a summary of the share price movements in your portfolio. How do I check if there has been any news today on the shares in my portfolio? From the Main Menu go to reports and select End of Day Update Statistics , at this screen click on portfolio comments in the portfolio section of the screen which will then display any news comments for the day on the shares in your portfolio. Which shares went down the most in the FTSE 100 today? From the Main Menu go to Share Details, check the FTSE 100 box and click the Browse Button. FTSE 100 shares are displayed and can be sorted by double clicking at the top of the relevant column. Daily, Weekly, Month, Yearly, Yield and Market Cap options are available. Filter options include, FTSE 250, Investment Trusts etc etc. How do I find shares which are making new highs and lows? From the Main Menu go to reports and select either 52 week highs or lows. A list will then be displayed which can be sorted by share or sector. How do I monitor shares that I might be interested in buying or selling in the future? From the Main Menu go to Stockwatch. In the Stockwatch menu click the Add button which will allow you to select a share from the Investor Ease database to watch. The screen allows you to imput a ‘watch’ price and upper and lower limit levels. The stock watch menu can be accessed from either the main menu, the Daily update menu or from an individual share menu. You may add your own user defined comments from the Stockwatch menu. How do I get a summary of results (including market expectations) due in the next two weeks? From the Main Menu go to go to Forthcoming, click on Results Summary and a screen displaying results and market expectations is shown. Also in these menus are lists of all Forthcoming results and dividends which can be filtered to include only the shares in your portfolios. I have a couple of OFEX stocks. Does Investor Ease have information on these? Yes. From the Main Menu go to Other Options click on OFEX from which you access the Investor ease OFEX database and information and prices for the shares therein. I would like to find out the earnings forecasts for McCarthy & Stone (or any other company) From the Main Menu got to Share Details and enter the first few letters of the company and press Enter which then displays the main share details for McCarthy & Stone. Move the cursor to the icon third from the top left showing notes and coins. Click and a table will be displayed showing forecasts for the next two years. I also need to know all the press comment and announcements for McCarthy & Stone. Proceed to the main McCarthy & Stone screen as above and click the top left icon displaying a newspaper. This displays a screen with a table of news and corporate events which can be viewed individually by highlighting the individual item in the left hand column. These can also be displayed graphically by clicking the Graph option. I'm not ready to buy the shares yet, but I would like to keep an eye on them. How do I do this? From the main MaCarthy & Stone screen go to the icon displaying an eye and click. This will then allow you to place the share in the Stock Watch list which will enable you attach price and comment alerts. You may also add your own user-defined comments. How do I check the volumes of shares traded over the last few days? From the main McCarthy & Stone screen go to the icon displaying a book. Click it and table of closing prices and volumes will be displayed. This table can give an indication of increasing or declining interest in the company. Can I make graphs of shares? From the main McCarthy & Stone menu, click the Graph button. A simple graph is displayed. A number of options are available such as comparisons with sector or index and simple moving averages by clicking Show Menu Options in the top left hand corner of the screen. An Open High Low Close Graph is also available. Can I export data to other packages? A full range of export facilities is offered for third party technical analysis packages such as AIQ, Metastock and Indexia. Users are also free to export data such as Director Dealing to spreadsheets etc. Export is designed to work seemlessly through the Export button at the Main Menu. Does Investor Ease have a Technical Analysis Module? Yes, this is accessed by clicking on the ChartMaster button on each share details screen. A full range of Technical Analysis features are available. |
